SYMRISE developed a new industrial production facility in Yingtan, China, combining manufacturing areas and office spaces within the same site. In this context, acoustics quickly became a strategic issue, both to ensure regulatory compliance and to protect user comfort.
Industrial equipment, technical installations, and site traffic generated significant noise levels, while office and management areas required low background noise, sound insulation, and acoustic privacy. In addition, the project had to comply simultaneously with Chinese environmental noise regulations (GB standards) and LEED Acoustical Performance, applying the most stringent criteria in each case.
The main challenge was therefore to anticipate and control environmental noise emissions at the site boundaries, while designing indoor acoustic conditions compatible with office use inside an active industrial environment. This required a predictive and integrated acoustic approach, rather than a simple compliance check.
Our scope included an environmental noise impact study, based on baseline measurements and noise simulations, to assess future sound emissions from industrial equipment, technical systems, and site operations.
We defined acoustic targets at the site boundaries, aligned with both Chinese GB regulations and LEED requirements. In parallel, we performed an acoustic design study for interior spaces, focusing on sound insulation between rooms, background noise control, and reverberation management in offices, meeting rooms, and management areas.
We delivered detailed acoustic specifications for partitions, doors, HVAC systems, and vibration control, ensuring that acoustic performance could be effectively implemented by local contractors during construction.
Our intervention enabled SYMRISE to achieve full compliance with Chinese environmental noise regulations and LEED acoustic criteria, both at the site boundaries and within interior spaces.
Environmental noise modelling allowed potential risks to be identified early and mitigated through appropriate design decisions, ensuring that industrial noise emissions remained within regulatory limits during both daytime and nighttime operation. Inside the building, our acoustic design ensured office-level acoustic comfort and confidentiality, despite the proximity of industrial activities and technical equipment.
By translating international acoustic standards into buildable, locally adapted solutions, our team played a key role in securing the project’s acoustic performance and supporting SYMRISE’s sustainability and operational objectives.
