As part of the renovation of Club Med Sahoro, two restaurants were redesigned to improve guest comfort and the overall dining experience. Following a successful collaboration on other areas of the resort, we were appointed to address high ambient noise levels that were affecting conversation and restaurant acoustics. Located in a mountain resort operating mainly during the snow season, both spaces are intended as warm, social environments where guests gather after a day outdoors. Prior to renovation, high reverberation levels made the spaces feel noisy during service, reducing both comfort and the sense of intimacy expected in a setting of this nature. The main challenge was to create a soundproof restaurant environment while fully supporting the intended atmosphere of the interiors, ensuring that every acoustic solution was integrated into the design without compromising the architectural identity or the cosy character of either space.
We carried out a reverberation study for both restaurants, focusing on improving internal acoustic comfort during service, working in close coordination with Miaja Design Group and Tropical Area throughout the design process.
For the main restaurant, we defined a combination of fabric ceiling systems and carpet in the main seating areas, complemented by felt ceiling elements in circulation zones and curtains to treat glazed surfaces. For the Minamina restaurant, we developed an acoustic treatment for restaurants strategy including fabric ceiling treatments, acoustic wrapping of columns and curtains, adapted to the spatial layout and interior design concept. All treatments were selected and positioned to meet the acoustic objectives while remaining consistent with the design vision. Throughout the project, the approach followed the principles of hotel acoustic design, ensuring that performance and aesthetic intent were addressed together at every stage.
The implemented acoustic treatments reduced reverberation and background noise, improving speech clarity and comfort during peak occupancy. By controlling sound reflections across both spaces, the restaurants now offer a calmer and more balanced acoustic environment without altering their visual identity. Improved acoustics reinforced the sense of warmth and intimacy of the interiors, enhancing the dining experience and making the spaces more comfortable and welcoming throughout service. The project demonstrates how targeted restaurant acoustics interventions, carefully integrated into the existing design language, can meaningfully transform the guest experience in a hospitality setting.
