Located in the B2 level of Shanghai Culture Square, dB86 Academy is no ordinary music school. As an ambitious EDM training hub co-founded by Ash Pournouri, Hugo Langras, Steve Pillemer, and Eric He, its goal is to shape the next generation of DJs while offering artist management, booking, and label services.
Given the venue’s underground location and purpose as a music education and performance space, one of the main acoustic challenges was ensuring effective soundproofing between rooms and limiting any noise transmission to surrounding areas of the complex.
Our acoustic engineers collaborated with award-winning design studio Atelier Zerebecky from the concept phase. We delivered:
- Acoustic studies to define airborne sound insulation requirements for the entire facility
- Optimized reverberation control to ensure music clarity in all spaces
- Tailored acoustic treatments for key areas:
- Classrooms
- Rehearsal studios
- DJ booths
- A club lounge with live performance capability, featuring innovative sound-absorbing materials
Thanks to this close cooperation, the db86 Academy delivers an immersive sound environment that supports both learning and performance. From private training sessions to full DJ sets, every area is acoustically treated to meet high-performance standards — ensuring students and artists can work, create, and perform in a setting that sounds as good as it looks.
