L’ESCAL was designed as a multifunctional cultural space for the town of Nailloux, bringing together a library, dojo, dance studios, performance hall, and exhibition areas under one roof. With such a varied mix of activities, one of the main challenges was ensuring that each space met its specific acoustic needs.
While the dojo required calm and clarity, the performance hall demanded resonance and intelligibility, and the library needed low ambient noise. All of this had to be achieved without acoustic conflict between zones, and within the constraints of a contemporary architectural design.
We supported the project from early design stages through to handover, defining a complete acoustic strategy for each area. We set target values for reverberation, sound insulation, and noise control according to the specific use of each space.
Throughout construction, we monitored the implementation of acoustic materials on site to ensure proper installation and performance, so the soundscape aligned with the project’s intention: dynamic where needed, and quiet where essential.
Today, Nailloux’s residents enjoy a vibrant cultural space where every sound finds its place. Whether it’s an art opening, a martial arts class, or simply reading a book in the library, visitors experience comfort and clarity. Thanks to thoughtful acoustic design, L’ESCAL has become not just a place for cultural activity, but a place people want to return to, again and again.
