Rising along one of the busiest nightlife districts in Phnom Penh, Sun & Moon Riverside Hotel is a four-star urban resort designed to reflect the city’s vibrant energy while offering a quiet, restful stay. With a property shaped like a T and only two facades facing the street, most of the hotel’s views currently open onto low-density neighboring plots. However, anticipating future densification, the architectural team conceived a central atrium that would ensure long-term openness and light throughout the layout.
This central atrium connects the three main wings of the building, providing a consistent flow between interior functions and the surrounding urban context. Yet, designing acoustic comfort for a property located in such an energetic area—with rooftop bars, wellness areas, event zones, and guestrooms—posed significant challenges. From managing noise separation between diverse functions, to blocking street traffic and controlling reverberation and mechanical vibrations, every element had to be considered to protect guest privacy and ensure acoustic well-being.
Delhom Acoustics was appointed early in the design process to carry out a comprehensive acoustic study tailored to the resort’s spatial and functional dynamics. We focused on façade insulation to limit intrusion from urban noise, especially near the active evening zones. Inside, we defined reverberation control strategies for the hotel’s lobby, restaurant, and other communal areas to ensure a pleasant and intelligible sound environment.
Our team provided design guidance for acoustic insulation between guestrooms and event zones, helping maintain discretion and restful sleep throughout the tower. We also addressed technical equipment noise, notably from chillers, HVAC, and generators, advising on vibration isolation and barrier placement. As the construction progressed, we accompanied the project through technical supervision and will return for on-site testing and acceptance of all acoustic treatments once finalized.
Though still under construction, the Sun & Moon Riverside Hotel is on track to deliver an environment where acoustic design actively supports both the architectural vision and guest experience. With every zone treated in response to its function and context, the hotel is set to offer the balance between energy and serenity that modern travelers seek. Delhom Acoustics’ early involvement has ensured that sound comfort is built into the project from the ground up—enhancing both the livability and long-term quality of the space.
