Located on Al Marjan Island in Ras Al Khaimah, the JW Marriott Hotel and Residences aims to bring world-class hospitality standards to one of the UAE’s most dynamic resort destinations. The project includes guestrooms, residences, restaurants, ballrooms, meeting spaces, and wellness areas, each with distinct acoustic requirements but a shared goal of providing an exceptional guest experience.

One of the main challenges was ensuring high acoustic comfort across a large, mixed-use development exposed to road traffic, coastal environmental noise, and mechanical systems. In addition, the project itself includes outdoor lounges and pool areas with amplified music, which required careful consideration to prevent disturbance to nearby guestrooms and residential zones.

Each space needed its own acoustic identity,  from calm and private guestrooms to lively yet controlled restaurants and entertainment zones. The design also had to comply with JW Marriott Design Standards (October 2022) and MI Asia Pacific Audio & Acoustic Design Guides, ensuring comfort levels equivalent to the brand’s flagship properties worldwide.

Delhom Acoustics was appointed to provide acoustic consultancy from Schematic Design to Tender stage, ensuring compliance with operator standards and local UAE acoustic regulations.

We developed an overall acoustic strategy addressing environmental noise, airborne and impact sound insulation, and reverberation control in both guest and public areas. The study included the analysis of road traffic exposure and noise propagation from outdoor venues such as lounges and pool areas, guiding the definition of acoustic performance targets for façades and internal partitions to ensure optimal comfort.

Internally, we defined sound insulation objectives for walls, floors, and ceilings, balancing privacy, comfort, and constructability. In key spaces such as the ballroom and multipurpose areas, we proposed high-performance acoustic separation and vibration control measures to maintain sound quality and flexibility of use.

Our reverberation studies guided the selection of absorbent finishes, including acoustic ceilings, perforated wood panels, and fabric wall systems, ensuring each area achieved the right balance of clarity and warmth. Collaboration with the architectural, interior, and MEP teams ensured that all acoustic recommendations were properly integrated into the design.

The project’s acoustic design ensures quietness, clarity, and comfort throughout, consistent with the brand’s five-star expectations. Guestrooms and residences achieve high levels of privacy and low background noise, while restaurants, ballrooms, and lounges maintain vibrancy and definition without excessive reverberation.

By integrating acoustics into the design from the earliest stages, we supported the consultants and design team in achieving a coherent and high-performing sound environment that enhances the sense of luxury and well-being expected of JW Marriott properties.
