LEU Réunion, Roland Garros Airport

Airports are complex, high-traffic environments where noise must be carefully managed to ensure clarity, comfort, and operational efficiency. At Roland Garros Airport, the need to accommodate 3.16 million passengers by 2025 led to the expansion of key areas, including the mezzanine and carpet zone.

Achieving acoustic comfort in these newly extended public spaces was particularly challenging due to the use of natural ventilation, which required opening the building envelope. These large façade openings compromised conventional façade sound insulation, increasing exposure to aircraft noise and ambient exterior sounds.

Delhom Acoustics developed a bespoke acoustic strategy aligned with the client’s architectural and environmental ambitions. Our engineers implemented noise control solutions adapted to high-traffic areas, focusing on impact noise reduction and sound clarity.

To balance natural ventilation with acoustic performance, we oriented the ventilation openings away from the landing tracks, minimising direct sound transmission. On another façade, we leveraged the screening effect of adjacent buildings to reduce aircraft noise exposure.

We paid particular attention to the public address system, ensuring that announcements remain clear and intelligible without contributing to stress or confusion. This involved analysing reverberation times, calibrating speaker placement, and adjusting background noise thresholds to comply with international standards.

We achieved a level of acoustic comfort rarely seen in naturally ventilated airport terminals, all while preserving the terminal’s modern and open design.

Delhom Acoustics helped transform the Roland Garros Airport expansion into a benchmark of sustainable innovation.
Our acoustic solutions for transportation hubs enabled the terminal to offer a stress-free travel experience, where announcements are clear and ambient noise remains under control, even with open façades.

This project demonstrates how acoustics can enhance infrastructure, improving both passenger well-being and airport operations.
