Since 2018, Delhom Acoustics has been supporting PIRIOU, one of France’s leading shipbuilders, in assessing the acoustic and vibration performance of their naval projects. PIRIOU requested our expertise to carry out control measurements on over 25 vessels built in Vietnam—including tugboats, supply vessels, passenger ferries, and sailboats—to ensure compliance with international noise and vibration regulations.
Each vessel featured a different layout and operational functions, requiring our team to adapt to varied onboard configurations and acoustic conditions. We carried out measurements in technical rooms, cabins, and engine compartments under real sea trial conditions. These assessments aimed to confirm that both crew safety and passenger comfort could be maintained under real operating conditions.

Delhom acousticians completed onboard noise and vibration audits, each tailored to the standards and performance expectations of the respective end clients. Our work included measuring sound levels under various engine loads and sea trial conditions, assessing vibration levels on structural and machinery zones, and verifying the sound insulation performance between sensitive areas such as cabins and adjacent technical rooms. We also evaluated crew noise exposure in accordance with occupational health and safety guidelines for seafarers.
In one particular case, we carried out an in-depth study of the airborne and structure-borne noise generated by a genset. This analysis allowed us to define the most effective mitigation strategy to reduce both airborne transmission and vibration propagation, enabling the client to implement targeted acoustic improvements directly during construction.

In total, more than 25 acoustic and vibration compliance reports were issued, enabling PIRIOU to validate the vessels against relevant standards. When necessary, the results allowed the client to implement corrective measures promptly, ensuring all boats met required regulations without impacting design or delivery timelines. These audits brought reassurance to both shipowners, operators, and end users, supporting smoother delivery and reliable performance at sea.
